Museum Grants For African American History And Culture Program

Museum Grants For African American History And Culture Program
The Institute of Museum and Library Services, otherwise termed as IMLS, is an independent agency of the United States Federal government that was established during the fiscal year 1996.
The programs and objectives of the IMLS are created to help them realize their overall agency mission which is to "create strong libraries and museums that connect people with information and ideas."
Aside from that, the IMLS also persistently operates towards administering grant programs which will boost the value of museums and libraries as crucial resources for a world of learners.
With that, the Institute of Museum and Library Services has generated a funding opportunity to support the Museum Grants for African-American History and Culture Program wherein they mean to provide the African-American museum employees with added understanding and ability in all the aspects of management, operations, programming, collections care, and other museum skills.
The program also tries to improve the African-American museum community's ability and sustainability by way of the provision of professional training services, technical assistance, internship programs, and outside expertise along with other tools.
The IMLS believes that the program will work perfectly if it will focus one or more of the following goals:
a) The development and conditioning of the knowledge, skills, and other expertise of the existing staff member in African-American museums.
b) The process of encouraging and retaining professionals who are well-equipped with the skills that are required to strengthen African-American museums.
c) The process of recruiting fresh staff members to join the African-American museums practice and supplying them with the expertise that they need in order to support them in the field of museum.
The IMLS may award grant funds that may vary from $5,000 to $150,000 depending on the extent of the activities that are included in an eligible applicant's proposal.
Interested applicants of the Museum Grants for African-American History and Culture Program will be considered eligible to outline a proposal if they're any of the following:
a) state or local government or a private nonprofit organization which has tax-exempt status under the Internal Revenue Code
b) state or local government or a private nonprofit organization which is situated in one of the 50 states of the United States of America, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, the Virgin Islands, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia, or the Republic of Palau
c) a museum, a museum service organization or association, a historically black college or university.
The Institute of Museum and Library Services, the key agency that is funding the Museum Grants for African-American History and Culture Program, is the federal government's primary provider of support for the nation's 122,000 libraries and 17,500 museums.

Government Grants For Small Business and Minorities-Minority Business Grants

Government Grants For Small Business and Minorities-Minority Business Grants
No matter the ethnicity, gender or religion of its people, the government has the responsibility to provide for them all. However, in modern times it is still difficult for many minorities in certain fields and positions. However free a society may be, there still exists discrimination and prejudice, however enlightened we may feel we are this will still take some time to change. With federal grant money for minorities, it is the aim of the government to guarantee that all minorities have equal rights.
There are two groups of minority federal grants:
One - Grants created to financially assist those of certain ethnic minorities are the 'Ethnic Minority Grants'. These grants can be acquired by Latino, Hispanic and African American students.
Two - Grants created to offer help to those with mental of physical disabilities that puts them at a disadvantage are the 'Non-ethnic Minority Grants'. Students who suffer from mental or physical disabilities, as well as have learning disabilities can gain these grants.
You can view educational grants like this much like a scholarship. While scholarships are attained by students who show merit and lack financial capabilities, grants such as these are attained by students who also lack financial capabilities but are of ethnic minorities or marginalized due to disabilities.
You can compare such educational grants to the well known Pell Federal grant. This grant is available to students outside of a minority also, however the majority who achieve it are from such categories.
There are also grants set up to aid minorities hoping to start their own business, or even transform one they already have. Small businesses can achieve financial help from the Small Business Administration. To find out more head to their website at SBA.gov or phone them on their support line.
There are a few more federal grants aimed at minorities as well, such as:
- Grants aimed at minorities who have limited English skills, called the Bilingual Service Demonstration Grants. These grants are designed to help minorities improve their English skills and thus be able to function in a workplace.
- Programs designed to help minority communities develop and achieve health care, these are known as the 'Community Programs to Improve Minority Health Program'. This program provides access to treatment, certain medical tests as well as educational talks.
- Programs designed to increase medical awareness amongst minorities called the 'Cooperative Agreements To Improve Health Status of Minority Populations'.
- Programs designed to lower the occasions of violence amongst minorities within their communities and campuses, called the 'Family and Community Violence Programs'.
- Grants and projects aimed at improving the current medical and health facilities found within minority communities, these projects are known as 'Project Grants for Facilities to Improve the Health Status of Minority Populations'.
- Projects aimed at increasing awareness of HIV and AIDS within minority communities, this important program is called the 'State and Territorial and technical Assistance Capacity Development Minority HIV and AIDS Demonstration Program'.
If you feel you fall into any of these categories and wish to apply for a grant you will need to have certain documents and proof ready. You must provide proof that you are in a minority, evidence of any past grants, documents showing your household income as well as information describing why you need the funding and how you would use it.
It isn't always easy to acquire federal grants and the process can be quite long, however you have to remain proactive and keep trying. These grants are designed to help those who need them most and who would otherwise be marginalized.

Government Personal Grants For Minorities-Apply Minority Grants

Government personal Grants For Minorities-Apply Minority Grants
One of the common things that prevail in our society is the racial discrimination, and the minorities are a victim of it. They have been always been kicked off from the facilities and benefits enjoyed by general people. They also deserve all the settlement that is given to rest of the people and one of them include minority Government Grants. 'Native North Americans', 'African North Americans' and the 'Hispanics' fall under this racial discrimination.
Though they sum up to a small amount but still they are a part of the country and it's pleasant to see that the Government has looked up to them to provide them grants.
With the aid of these grants it has now been possible for many racists to cope up with their needs. The Government has provided a number of minority grants according to the needs for Financial Aids, housing loans, health care, child care, child education, some personal grants and grants for the disabled. To qualify for the minority grant you need to fulfill certain criteria and conditions.
You need to be a part of qualified minority such as Native North Americans, African North Americans and the Hispanics. Secondly, you should be a certified US citizen and a valid social security number. If you fulfill all the criteria you are then eligible to apply for grant.
To handle the financial conditions of the family such as food, clothing, etc 'Personal minority Governmental loans' are given. It also helps the person to pay his house rents and if interested to buy a car for himself. Minority Business Governmental grants are awarded for business assistance.
This provides funds for minority industrialists, production opportunities, real-estate and investments of which the governmental grants for minority entrepreneurs are the most frequently given. With the aid of it small business owners gets a scope to enlarge their financial condition and provide some good stuff to the family. They can also try their hand in mutual funds to get some quality profit.
Governmental grants are also given for health and care. As the prices of medicines and other things are increasing, it is impossible for many of them to provide their family with proper medication and vaccination. Health care grants have helped many persons out of the disease that were not possible for the minorities to recover by themselves.
The most important are the education grants that have provided many children with schooling and necessary books. Thus a large portion of the grant money is awarded for child education. It has also helped to provide them with computers and internet connections. This has been a great help to the single mothers and to them who never thought in their wildest dreams that they could provide their children with proper education.

First-time Home Buyers Government Grants For Minorities-Free Housing Grants For Minorities

First-time Home Buyers Government Grants For Minorities-Free Housing Grants For Minorities
A home is not just an investment but a personal joy and a stronghold that brings a sense of security to you and your family. Buying a home remains a dream for many, who fail to gather enough finances for the same. The good news is that there are various types of government grants for first-time home buyers. This includes the American Dream Down Payment Initiative, which was introduced in 2003. Apart from the grant programs of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), you may also apply for programs initiated by the states, local authorities and organizations, so as to help first-time home buyers in their territory. Scroll down to learn more about government grants for first-time home buyers.
More about Government Grants For First-time Home Buyers
So, there are various types of government grants for first-time home buyers. Though the programs have been developed by HUD, the department does not allot these grants directly. This is done through the local governments and non-profit organizations. The following are some basic facts about first-time house buyer grants offered by the government.
First of all, you have to understand that these grants are not loans, but is government assistance for the development of the community in general. So, grants offered by the government for first-time home buyers are not to be repaid.
No such grant program will provide you with 100% finance assistance for buying a house. In other words, none of these programs will offer you 100% cost of the house. In fact, most of these grants cover only less than 10% of the cost of the house.
Another important point to note is that these grants will only be available for those, who are eligible for a mortgage.
It is mandatory to attend the HUD-approved housing counseling class, so as to qualify for grants offered by these programs. Apart from enhancing your knowledge about finances and home-buying, such classes may also help you find ways to qualify for a mortgage.
A first-time home buyer is a person, who buys the principal home or residence for the first time or the person has not owned (wholly or partly) a principal residence for the past three years (ending on the date of purchase of the new one). If he/she is married, these terms are applicable for the spouse too.
Even single parents without any permanent residence (even if they had owned a house, along with his/her spouse, during their marriage), is eligible for this grant. This term covers displaced homemakers too. Those with homes that are not attached to a permanent foundation and owners of homes that are not built on compliance with the building codes can also make an application for this grant.
The income of the applicant or household and the sale price of the proposed home, must not exceed the limits specified. Even bad credit may not matter, in getting qualified for these grants.
Government Programs for Assisting First-time Home Buyers
So, there are various programs that are introduced by the government, to assist first-time home buyers, who find it difficult to buy a home, due to financial shortage. The most popular among them is American Dream Down Payment Initiative (ADDI), which sanctions around $200 million in grants each year. This program, which was aimed at providing assistance for down payments, closing costs and rehabilitation projects, has a maximum limit of $10,000 or six percent of the home's purchase price, whichever is greater.
You may also opt for a government-backed FHA (Federal Housing Administration) loan. In such a case, you may get eligible, if you have a credit score of 680, whereas conventional financial institutions may require a score of around 720. For procuring a loan from the latter, you have to cough up 20% of the purchase price as down payment, whereas in FHA loan, it is only 3%. Though, this is not a grant in the true sense, this scheme is also of much help, as far as first-time home buyers are concerned. You may also find other such programs, like the Emergency Shelter Grants (ESG) program, Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program, Home Investment Partnerships Program, etc. The terms and conditions and eligibility criteria differ with individual programs. So, it is always better to understand them, before choosing a program and applying for it.
The above said is only a brief overview about government grants for first-time home buyers. Though the basics are applicable for all, you may also find certain exceptions. The clauses may vary with individual applicants. So, it is always better to gain some knowledge about the same, with the help of an expert. Visit the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) website and take a look at the programs available in your area. Choose the one that is best suited for you. Ensure that the funding under the chosen program is still on. Locate the property to be purchased and apply for the grant. If you are eligible for a mortgage, then apply for it too. Visit the local office of the HUD for assistance. You may either download the application form from the website or get it from the local office. Fill and submit the form with the necessary documents.

Grants for Minority Doctoral Students in Education-Free Government Grants

Grants for Minority Doctoral Students in Education-Free Government Grants
For thousands of students each year, the cost of funding their education can often be the determining factor in whether they pursue higher degrees or not. However, there are hundreds of options for students looking to go back and head into graduate study. For minority doctoral students looking to specialize in education, there are a number of options that can reduce the financial stresses of going back for another degree.
Strategy for Finding Aid
It can often be difficult for doctoral students to find the amount of aid that is at the disposal of undergraduates. When looking for these sources of financial assistance, it is important to be specific in your search. Often, the most valuable resource is the specific college or university at which the student is attending, because national awards can sometimes be few and far between. Though scholarships and grants maybe more difficult to find at this stage of the educational game, fellowships and teaching assistantships can often be helpful in providing the majority of the funding for a doctoral degree.
Minority Dissertation Fellowship
One of the largest opportunities for doctoral students studying education is the American Research Association's Minority Dissertation Fellowship in Education Research. Three fellowships are given each year to doctoral students pursuing in-depth research into education. The winners receive a $12,000, one-year stipend and up to $1,000 in travel expenses. AERA also encourages the winners' college or university to provide supplements to the fellowships.
Diversity Fellowships
Another opportunity for those looking to pursue doctoral studies in education is the Ford Foundation Diversity Fellowship program. Offering a three-year, $17,000 stipend for students pursuing studies in a number of fields, education among them, this fellowship program is open to a number of under-represented groups, including Latino, African-American and Native American students.
Doctoral Scholars Program
The Southern Regional Education Board offers doctoral students three to five years of financial support for their research through their scholars program. The award comes with three years of direct support from the Southern Regional Education Board and then is followed by two years of support from the student's college or university, typically as a $15,000 to $20,000 annual stipend. In addition, the award also comes with a fee and tuition waiver, assuming that the institution the student is studying through does not prohibit this.
Institutional Awards
Many colleges and universities award fellowships and generous stipends to education doctoral students. For instance, Michigan State University offers an award to doctoral students that will cover 50 percent of their research assistantship and also provide $1,500 in travel expenses. Though there are no stipulations on what subject students must specialize in, they are required to attend events sponsored and organized by the school.

Free Government Grants For Black Minority Business

Free Government Grants For Black Minority Business
Minority business grants fall into two general categories: grants for business development and grants that support specific "projects." Research and development projects and technology transfer projects are examples of the latter. Grants can be awarded to either for-profit or nonprofit business entities.
Grants for Funding Black Minority Businesses
Black minority businesses may qualify for federal grants if engaged in scientific research and development (R&D) under the SBIR (Small Business Innovation Research) and the STTR (Small Business Technology Transfer) programs. These programs must meet federal R&D objectives and have high potential for commercialization. Grant proceeds are subject to specific conditions and stringent reporting requirements. The Grants.gov website provides a list of current grants from the 26 federal grant-making agencies.
A few foundations award small business development grants to both nonprofit and for-profit enterprises. Some organizations are dedicated to minority business development. Most are non-racial. The BusinessGrants.org website provides a current listing of national and local grantors that award grants to both for-profit and nonprofit organizations for business development.
Other Funding Options
Numerous alternatives to grant funding are available to minority entrepreneurs from both public and private sector organizations. The Small Business Administration (SBA) is the leading lending source for minority businesses. The sba.gov website provides a wealth of information on starting and managing a business, federal loan and grant programs, federal contracting opportunities, online training programs and local counseling services.
Investor financing involves selling a share (ownership) in the business to investors. Entrepreneurs considering investor financing should expand the pool of potential investors beyond family and friends to include "angel" investors and venture capital firms.
Angel Investors
Angel investors are typically wealthy individuals. They provide a range of valuable services other than cash. Most angels are or have been successful business owners with expertise to share. Moreover, they usually have an extensive network of contacts that can prove quite useful.
The Minority Angel Investor Network (MAIN) is the angel network for minority businesses. MAIN limits its investments to businesses located within four hours drive time from Philadelphia. However, their investment guidelines are similar to those of angel investors in most regions of the country.
Specialized Small Business Investment Companies (SSBICs)
Specialized Small Business Investment Companies (SSBICs) are a type of venture capital firm. They leverage funds borrowed from the SBA to invest only in businesses that are 51-percent owned by socially or economically disadvantaged persons. Additional information on SSBICs and investment guidelines can be found by visiting the National Association of Investment Companies website.
Starting the Process
The process of obtaining a grant or funding from any other source always starts with a winning business plan. The business plan is the calling card that gains access. It is the best way to prove the merit of the business proposition. The plan must be clear, compelling and realistic while showcasing the talent and team that can make a business proposition a reality.

College Grants and Scholarship For Minority Students-Minority Grants

College Grants and Scholarship For Minority Students-Minority Grants
Because minorities often face a number of obstacles on the road to a college education -- perhaps they live below the poverty line, come from single-parent homes or large families, have parents who don't speak English, or have any number of other problems -- there are a wide variety of college grants that are available to them, both ethnic and non-ethnic. Regardless of the reason for your hardship, many agencies do their part to make sure you will have an equal opportunity for education by providing grants for college. Many of these grants are specifically for a certain minority, though others are for minorities in general.
The federal government provides grants for Native Americans, Mexicans (and other Latin American and South American cultures), African-Americans, Asians, Cubans, Arabs, and other ethnicities. These grants provide access to funding based on need and hardship. Aside from ethnic background, other minorities are also assisted because of setbacks they may have faced. These minority groups include women. There are also grant opportunities for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender students. The Actuarial Scholarships for Minority Students, the American Bar Association Legal Opportunity Scholarship Program, and the American Psychological Association Minority Fellowship Program all have significant grant opportunities for minorities. Of course, there are also many private businesses and entities that assist in providing grants to less-privileged individuals of minority distinction, based on need and specific criteria determined by the awarding party.
