Many private and government agencies provide free money to Black woman in the form of business grants and educational grants. These also include different types of grants for programs that are targeted specifically to African American women. Many grant sources fund programs for the purpose of assisting in the diversification of educational and business opportunities.

Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation: Dissertation Grants in Women's studies

There are about 15 awards in the amount of $3,000 for dissertation research in women's studies. These studies include women's roles in society, women in history, psychology of women and women portrayed in literature. Topics have included African American Women in Electoral Politics; and Women, Violence and Visual Representation in South Africa. All pre-dissertation requirements and the proposal must be completed for consideration.

National Science Foundation: Research on Gender in Science and Engineering

To include female participants through research, dissemination and integration of proven practices in education in science and engineering. These funded projects are to educate and promote institutional culture to close gender gaps in certain fields.

Radcliffe Institute for Advance Study: Radcliffe Fellowships to Study Women, Gender, and Society

This grants provides fellowships of up to $50,000 to scholars, professionals, writers, and artists. The institute is centered on the study of women, gender and society. Fellows are usually affiliated with one of Radcliffe's four centers and receive office or studio space and access to libraries and other facilities at Harvard University. Applicants must have doctorate or appropriate terminal degree of at least two years prior to appointment.

Allstate Foundation

This grant provides up to $10,000 for activities related to tolerance, diversity and inclusion. The foundation states, "These diversity programs should focus on: Teaching tolerance to youth; alleviating discrimination; or reducing hate crimes. Safe communities programs should focus on: Catastrophe response and mitigation; school anti-violence or revitalization of communities. Economic empowerment should focus on: Financial and insurance ed; economic literacy or entrepreneurial and small business skill development for women."

Caleb Brown: Urban Excellence Community Grant

Caleb Brown is a venture capitol firm that has access of up to $150,000 used to assist urban professionals with starting businesses and rebuilding communities. They work like a partner with entrepreneurs in investing in the company and backing the entrepreneur while teaching them about the business creation process.
